About the band

3 funky female singers front a rocking 5 piece band putting an original twist on funk, R&B and blues songs. They cover artists like Aretha Franklin and Chic right up to modern soul stars like Jill Scott, Joss Stone and Snarky Puppy. They also write, record and perform their own original music which fits seamlessly into their setlist. Their strength lies in their musicality with plenty of smooth harmonies, percussion breakdowns and impressive solos.
A favourite with music-lovers, they can be found at venues like The Blues Kitchens - London, Hard Rock Hotel – London, Pizza Express Live – Holborn, entertaining large crowds at events like Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park and performing at festivals in the UK and Europe including the internationally renowned Cork Guinness Jazz Festival (Ireland) and the St.Louis Festival, Sete (France).

Emily is an actress, singer & dancer. She has worked on a number of theatre and TV productions, once playing Shelly and understudying the lead role Tracy Turnblad in the Original Hairspray UK Tour. As well as having a great voice, Emily deploys all her theatrical skills in getting down with the audience – be aware !
Leigh started singing in the world of competitive school choirs, while she loved competing she knew that choral music wasn’t truly her style. She sang with a group called Theatre Train at weekends that gave her the opportunity to perform in fantastic venues such as the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane & the Royal Albert Hall.
Sophie is a singer-songwriter from a small village in Hertfordshire. Having studied music at the University of Nottingham, her soul-influenced tracks are a far cry from these classical roots & have been supported across the country by BBC Introducing.
Trimmer’s formal music education is a BA in Jazz Studies & an MA in Electro – Acoustic Composition. Trimmer’s first band Burlesque were signed to Arista Records in 1976, & produced two albums ‘Acupuncture’ and ‘Burlesque’.
I have played my guitar in England, Greece, Spain, Australia, Portugal & Ireland & I’m happy to play with the Bad Girls anywhere. This is by far the funkiest band I have ever been in. Let’s do it!
Playing with the Bads on a regular basis we now have the extraordinary & delightful Jamie Murray on drums. Jamie has had the privilege of performing with jazz legends from the Sun Ra Arkestra, as well as guitar greats like Robben Ford & Guthrie Govan. He is endorsed by top tier brands including Gretsch drums, Zildjian cymbals, Evans drum heads & Promark sticks. Jamie is married to Bad Girl Emily – how good is that?
Our Italian keyboard player classically trained as a pianist since age 5 & throughout his teens Alberto eventually discovered & nurtured his true passion for Jazz, Fusion, Funk, Blues, R&B & Soul & went on to earn a degree in Electric Guitar as well as an MA in Musicology. Now based in London he’s regularly performing in the UK Folk, Blues & Soul scene as well as recording for various artists in the UK & Europe. He’s released 2 instrumental albums & an EP in his name, available on Spotify as well as all other digital platforms. Alberto is a lively visual performer & a very welcome addition to the Bads.
Trevor is an electric bass player based in South West London. Heavily influenced by soul, rock, funk, and jazz from the 60s and 70s, he applies a strong sense of groove, support and melody to his playing and brings open ears and an open mind to all musical situations.

Julie Bolt, our beautiful manager (and Roger’s wife) died on 12 January 2025. Julie was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease in August 2022. This terrible disease has no cure and is always terminal. From the day she was diagnosed until her last days, Julie showed a daunting courage and resilience in dealing with the extremely unpleasant consequences of her MND. Finally, quite suddenly, she died peacefully at home with Roger by her side.

Summer’s here (Oh?) so bands of all sorts and sizes are being booked to play on outside stages, in gardens, on rooftops and on beaches up and down the UK. That includes the Bads who have 3 consecutive outside bookings in July in three different UK locations before heading off to Sète in S.France to play at the famous Fete de la Saint Louis in August. So check the weather , pack your Glasto survival kit and join us at some or all of our outside shows. The food and forecast may vary - but the funk remains the same. Boogie !!

Following on from the very successful 2018 release of their EP on Breaking Records the 4 gorgeous Bad Girls + their full 5-piece band are planning an evening of music to set your toes tapping. After their success last year (and this!) on the festival circuit - including the St Louis Festival in Sete, S.France, the world renowned Cork Guinness Jazz Festival and their rammed to the rafters concert in March 2018 at this venue - the Bads have been invited once again to bring their lively show to the intimate surroundings of the PizzaExpress on the 9th June.

Hot hot news! The Bads first EP has now been released on Breaking Records. All tracks except “Star People” recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by Paul Stanborough @Studio301London. The EP contains 3 originals – ‘Waste of Days’, ‘Pass the Remote’ and ‘Life of Lily’ composed by Roger + 3 covers – ‘Crossroads’, ‘No Diggity’ and ‘Star People’.
